Heretic Cursed Armor – Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade Fan Art

The final piece in the series of concept fan art inspired by a video game a few years ago

Picture
Followers,

This is exciting news for me. I am finally able to present the final piece of fan art from the series of work inspired by Warhammer 40,000 and the video game Eternal Crusade.

When I first heard about that game years ago, I was eager to lose myself in a new online WH40K experience. While we all know how that turned out, it also sparked my imagination to begin work on these concept fan art pieces.

Like I mentioned before, I was and always will be a follower of Chaos. Thus, the dark leanings of the theme of these.

This final piece is a staple of the followers of the Ruinous Powers – cursed armor of the heretic denomination. This design has the trappings of followers of the Word Bearers Chaos Space Marine legion. Etchings on the surface meant to pierce the veil, skin of their enemies to fuel the warp entities thirst, and the typical festooning of chains, spikes, and unsettling visages that often go along with the followers of chaos.

Again, I am trying to push my abilities with doing these online on my machine. This time, I tried another method I have not tried yet. This time, using my Wacom pen and tablet and photoshop, I first began by blocking in color fields. Once done with that, I moved on to add a layer of lighting and shadows as I would have before doing the color in the process I first used. In fact, this is the process I used in the physical world when I used to work with acrylics on canvas and always enjoyed the results.

Now, I am not what I might call a colorist, so the shading is one in different tints and shades of semitransparent white, grays, and black.

I purposely did not spend an inordinate amount of time on completing this one, as I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could get done. Overall, again, happy with what it looks like considering.

Backstory
The Astra Militarum of the local region had a story they used to tell. It involved the seemingly impenetrable armor of the heretic space marines that had often plagued them through the sector. These were led by an unnamed behemoth of a warlord, terrible to behold and even worse to listen to. It seemed reality would shift as he would begin spewing his litany of demonic gibbering. None in the crawler had been there, but their fathers and grandfathers had been. Ilteo had heard the armor was cast from the molten core of warp and super cooled by the deep freeze of the void as it sought its new owners. Mathis said his father had seen the leader of the red warband strip the flesh from the body of a living soldier on the battlefield only to drape it across his cuirass like a bedsheet. The colonel in the crawler laughed. He shared a factual account, so he would swear, of his great grandfather witnessing a strange ceremony enacted upon the chaos warlord. The story goes that as a great battle began upon one of the outworld defense moons, while the fog of war was settling in, a glimpse was caught of two wretched creatures reciting what could only be called inane rambling that had been scrawled on the surface the armor. As it was done, the glyphs began to glow. He shared how the air seemed to become super charged – he recounted the seriousness with which his great grandfather would describe the hair on his neck and arms stand up and that he could taste ozone. The colonel was a great storyteller. The younger ones in the crawler were transfixed. He knew he had them hooked. He would go on to say that that he was suddenly soaked in the small of his back with sweat. He jumped as he was surprised by the explosion of thunder nearby. At this point, the chaos warlord was glowing an unnatural red. He could feel something was off. As if at the snap of a finger, a blink of his eyes brought a complete change of the fabric of reality. Everything was in slow motion, color had escaped from his vision, and there were now the silhouettes of hundreds of unknown creatures on either of or behind the Chaos leader. They all sat oddly still, poised and ready to strike. At the question of what happened, the colonel paused. A smirk prefaced his explanation. He told them how that flavor of heretic astartes held great and terrible powers through the connection to the warp. They would come to battle and recite the scrawling they carried, each meant to weaken the fabric of reality in order to allow the Ruinous Powers to lend them aid as a reward for their faith. At that time, it was a particularly large-scale battle and this Warlord had been in high regard. When they asked how his great grandfather got away, he would clam up though as his shame was obvious. The colonel would say he was a coward and ran and escaped by accident with his life. As he ran, a bolt of warp energy flipped a transport over a crater he had been running through and he hid there until the fight had moved past. He eventually was picked up by rescue lifters and taken back to their rendezvous in orbit. There he was interrogated by Imperial Agents for details and sent back home – an early retirement. The crawler fell silent as it trundled to the front-line fire-base of the engagement. The colonel peaked through the view-port and paused in horror. He didn’t have the heart to tell the crew what he saw.

Nightlords Chaos Space Marine Inspired Frag Grenade Concept

Picture
Hey all,

Keeping on a roll here – happy and excited to show another piece from the Chaos Space Marine Eternal Crusade Fan Art series. The images here are of a concept of a Chaos frag grenade. I have drawn on some inspiration from the Nightlords faction of chaos space marines. The colors are similar and there is a dense pattern of lightning streaks.

This process was a bit different but still in using Photoshop, my PC, pencil and paper, scanner, and a Wacom pen and tablet.

Again, this was started as a line sketch years ago, not very clean, I admit, then I finally moved it into a scanned image. Just the other day and finishing tonight, I have gotten the shaded layer and then the color overlay complete. I seem to prefer to do things this way right now and works well. I might use the Multiply layer settings or others. Usually, I would have done the grayscale shading with pencil, but I am working on getting better and more comfortable with it using digital methods.
In all, I am happy with the results. Thanks for keeping with me. Enjoy!

Backstory:
17 were made. One for each of the elite guard of the Nightlord champion Nurlic the Nightshade. Each imbued with the carrier’s own connection to the warp. Each were covered in the ornate and striking lightning workings reflective of their brothers’ legion. These group of fragmentation grenades were meant to be gifts for each of those guard. They were to use them in the rarest of occasions when they were in need of especially potent ordinance to inflict maximum carnage on their brothers loyal to the Golden Throne. Rumors abound of these never having been used and all being collected in one weapons cache on a particularly daring rogue trader’s vessel. Reports of it being seen in a forgotten sector of space surface from time to time in trader outposts. None know for sure. Until a year ago when a derelict ship was found floating into Imperium space and was quickly confiscated by the Black Ships. No one knows what has become of those artifacts since then.

Thank you all!

Conceptual Fan Art of a Krak Grenade for Chaos Boiz

Picture
Fellow Heretics,

Please enjoy this post as it is one amongst many in a series of artwork based on the Warhammer 40,000 video game Eternal Crusade. This particular concept / fan art is an old sketch I have recently done up in photoshop. Resplendent and ominous at the same time, this concept is what I think a krak grenade would look like if it belonged to a faction of chaos space marines. I have always been a follower of the ruinous powers when playing, painting, collecting, and being a fan of Warhammer 40,000. Thus, the reason for all the Chaos-themed items in this series.

The process is simple, yet tedious at times. It started a few years back being inspired by the release of Eternal Crusade. I loved the items you could get from playing so I visualized my own set of wargear for chaos space marines. These all started as pencil line sketches on paper. Next, they are scanned or imaged into my computer. After that, I would print the cleaned-up line work and then shade that version in on paper using a set of art pencils or just my favorite Black Warrior Mirado Pencils. The last few I started to challenge myself and shaded them using my Wacom Intuous Bamboo and Photoshop. Finally, using a few filters and many layers, I simply paint single layers of color overlays to make them pop. I usually save these different steps out so I can show the process in a post.

Back Story
Blastiche Krilgin of the Oratory Font of the Ragegivers Warband of Chaos Space Marines was out of ammunition for his loyal bolt pistol and his power sword had been jammed into a gearwork of his prey’s transport carrier. He was lacking in the warp-gifts and not particularly large. His comrades had either advanced through the fog of war and left him or lay scattered around the immediate vicinity as a result of their assault cannon defense batteries. Yet, he was still eager and optimistic. He had assisted in the spearhead and seen many of the foe stricken down in their righteous fury in the name of their deity. Many moments were taken to rehearse the litany of devotions to imbue his cohort with renewed zeal and ferocity. He was tired, he had to admit, as he was still mostly human. He had looked around for something he could use. A tinny noise at his waste interjected his internal dialogue. Could it be? His hand instinctively grabbed for something. It was there. He tilted his head down and beheld a glorious sight. The Oratory Font brethren all carried these. Of course. In his battle-rage he had forgotten. So it was that Blastiche was able to enter the enemy’s compound and begin the ending of their suffering and grant them deliverance to the Ruinous Powers. The simple, yet effective krak grenade became legend that day. From then on, it would be known as the Lone Demise of Asteroth, the namesake of the wretched homeworld of the antagonists of the Ragegivers.

You know you want this Lego Business Card Holder

Picture
Followers!

Thanks to you loyal few that keep sticking with me. Again, I have the best Lego build to share. This time, the post and pictures are an afterthought. I never thought to share pictures or write a post about this until I had shared some other more recent Lego builds. This Lego is a custom built Lego truck in the fashion of a modified, refrigerated box truck. The truck has a cut away view of the box and has a place for setting my business cards.

Most of these white Legos are over twenty years old as they were mine when I was kid. I told my boys I needed to borrow them for a while.

I have shared different angles to show the Lego truck wheels, chassis, cab with female Lego driver, doors, AC unit, lights, and more.

I was asked on twitter to share this with people, so I wanted to make sure to have an official post here.

Please, someone tell Lego they need Lego Business Card Holder kits for people.

Any feedback and comments welcome. Enjoy!

Thanks all for reading.

Thanks also again to the good people of #Lego @Lego www.lego.com

Yellow Lego Tank Mech Robot

Check below for a gallery and description of this great yellow lego tank robot.

Greetings faithful visitors,

Behold the best yellow lego tank mech robot!

Sorry, I had a longer post written before, but it got lost. I don't feel like writing it all again.

Suffice to say, my sons loved seeing this yellow lego robot mech. Much love to the people at Lego for the inspiration since a young age.

Also, the overall mech tank design is maybe recognizable to some. I was a big player of the armored core games. This is a loose rendition of the heavy tank mech designs.

Enjoy!
