Dear readers, Please know the few of you who still come by and read are much appreciated. Those of you who do keep coming by are the reason I still even have a website at all. And I will until those visits reach zero. That said, I wanted to do a post on the unit of Poxwalkers I painted up recently. I had gotten out and sealed them with the short burst of warm weather we recently had here in South Central Wisconsin. To say they are cool minis is an understatement but they are so finely detailed it makes them a bit laborious to paint. So they are a labor of love. But worth it. Assembly is not a big deal with these Poxwalker kits. They are essentially monopose but that does not mean they can't be modified at all. I always since 15 years ago fully assembled kits before painting as I could never escape glue fog once assembled. Usually I am using Loctite or Gorilla Glue super glue gel. Primer was white Rustoleum acrylic flat paint and primer. Paint of choice I went with various contrast paints and speed paints. Then in some areas built up contrasts with some extra shades and oils. In the end I was fairly pleased with the results with odd fleshtones and garrish hues on their garb. If you want to find out colors, drop a comment below. Enjoy the pics of each model of the unit here next...

Greetings fell creatures! Alrighty, I have a lot of updates that will be coming along so here we go. Apologies on the lack of posting. Work, life, mental, personal, medical health excuses and all that. It's been crazy. Trying to push through. I had a productive fall and end to 2023. I have two big sets of minis painted and based. Started some others. Building some more. And helping my 9 year old get his Ork Kill team boiz up and running. Anyways, here we go. My son and I got the Kill Team Starter set months ago that features the Ork Kommandos and Veteran Guardsman teams since it also came with scenery and a mat and accessories. It was a better deal per piece than getting armies separate. I had already bought another Killteam set which I have yet to paint but figured the other stuff was worth it. So the above picture shows all of them together as their whole Killteam. They are featured using the slapchop method painting and that was created using dark grey primer coat drybrushing up a couple shades with light grey and then white. The color scheme was inspired by a piece of fan fiction I was writing a long time ago. The top coasts are contrast orange and blue from Citadel. Paints for Veteran Guardsman Custom Color Scheme Magmadroth Flame = Orange Armor Talassar Blue = Blue Great Coat Basilicanum Grey = Grey Straps, Boots, and Guns Warp Lightning = Green Lenses Sour Apple (DecoArt) = Green Base After doing so, I would say this, you have to work really hard to not end up with a grainy dark effect under the colors and most times would recommend newbies to stick with just white as the undercoat for contrast and speed paints. Gives a better finish in my opinion. I think it ended up with a neat look for these Veteran Guardsman. As for building them, they were surprisingly not terrible and required little cleanup. I am used to the nightmare of Chaos builds, so this was a nice break. These guys are the first full squad of minis painted using the slapchop method. Also, they are the first full squad of minis completed in a long time. Very happy with the results and I hope to post more like these Veteran Guardsman soon. Keep on warmongering you diabolical deviants! See more posts below or to the right... In Progress ShotsGoing to have a few new posts here. Finally got a chance to post recent projects that I managed to get wrapped up. This first one is a built heldrake from Warhammer 40,000. That first shot is the finished product sans varnish and even comes with a fully finished base. Woot!
As far as builds go, the Chaos Heldrake is especially challenging and not all that logical, if you ask me. I would see many posts about them on social media and most people complain about and bemoan the painting of the trim and such. While I did find the trim tedious, I actually found the build more vexing. The pieces were tough fitting together and there were many mold lines. In many places you had to fit pieces together before adhering them to another. Finally, the final pose of the Heldrake was not as pictured and teetered quite literally as incorrect and unbalanced. That said, the final piece, as I knew it would be, was worth every second of blood, sweat , and tears. It really is a stunning kit and makes for a great centerpiece on the battlefield. Paint Scheme As is clear by the name and paint theme, this is fashioned after the motifs seen used by the Night Lords including midnight blue, gold trim, and lightning accents. The mouth weapon option for my Heldrake was the baleflamer. Trim Scheme: Antique Gold, Agrax Earthshade, then highlights of Antique Metallic Gold and Metallic Inca Gold. Armor Blue Scheme: Deadly Nightshade / Navy, Nuln Oil, Too Blue Lightning Bolts Scheme: Wysteria Glycine, White, Too Blue Metal / Skin Scheme: Metallic Gunmetal, Armor Wash / Nuln Oil, and Metallic Aluminum Eye scheme: thinned White, thinned Burnt Orange Baleflamer scheme: Burnt Orange, Nuln Oil, White, thinned Burnt Orange, thinned Yellow Light, thinned White Brands used: Citadel, Apple Barrel, Plaid, Crafstmart, DecoArt, FolkArt, and FormulaP3. Basing Scheme: Leaf Green, Model Train turf gravel and sponge bush, using Elmer's Extreme PVA glue and glue for model terrain. Hope you all enjoy. Give a shout and share and like, etc. on Twitter and Insta @kaneykreative and @tskaney. Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for more. Nightlords Chaos Space Marine Inspired Frag Grenade Concept Hey all, Keeping on a roll here – happy and excited to show another piece from the Chaos Space Marine Eternal Crusade Fan Art series. The images here are of a concept of a Chaos frag grenade. I have drawn on some inspiration from the Nightlords faction of chaos space marines. The colors are similar and there is a dense pattern of lightning streaks. This process was a bit different but still in using Photoshop, my PC, pencil and paper, scanner, and a Wacom pen and tablet. Again, this was started as a line sketch years ago, not very clean, I admit, then I finally moved it into a scanned image. Just the other day and finishing tonight, I have gotten the shaded layer and then the color overlay complete. I seem to prefer to do things this way right now and works well. I might use the Multiply layer settings or others. Usually, I would have done the grayscale shading with pencil, but I am working on getting better and more comfortable with it using digital methods. In all, I am happy with the results. Thanks for keeping with me. Enjoy! Backstory: 17 were made. One for each of the elite guard of the Nightlord champion Nurlic the Nightshade. Each imbued with the carrier’s own connection to the warp. Each were covered in the ornate and striking lightning workings reflective of their brothers’ legion. These group of fragmentation grenades were meant to be gifts for each of those guard. They were to use them in the rarest of occasions when they were in need of especially potent ordinance to inflict maximum carnage on their brothers loyal to the Golden Throne. Rumors abound of these never having been used and all being collected in one weapons cache on a particularly daring rogue trader’s vessel. Reports of it being seen in a forgotten sector of space surface from time to time in trader outposts. None know for sure. Until a year ago when a derelict ship was found floating into Imperium space and was quickly confiscated by the Black Ships. No one knows what has become of those artifacts since then. This particular concept / fan art is an old sketch I have recently done up in photoshop. Resplendent and ominous at the same time, this concept is what I think a krak grenade would look like if it belonged to a faction of chaos space marines. I have always been a follower of the ruinous powers when playing, painting, collecting, and being a fan of Warhammer 40,000. Thus, the reason for all the Chaos-themed items in this series. The process is simple, yet tedious at times. It started a few years back being inspired by the release of Eternal Crusade. I loved the items you could get from playing so I visualized my own set of wargear for chaos space marines. These all started as pencil line sketches on paper. Next, they are scanned or imaged into my computer. After that, I would print the cleaned-up line work and then shade that version in on paper using a set of art pencils or just my favorite Black Warrior Mirado Pencils. The last few I started to challenge myself and shaded them using my Wacom Intuous Bamboo and Photoshop. Finally, using a few filters and many layers, I simply paint single layers of color overlays to make them pop. I usually save these different steps out so I can show the process in a post. Back Story Blastiche Krilgin of the Oratory Font of the Ragegivers Warband of Chaos Space Marines was out of ammunition for his loyal bolt pistol and his power sword had been jammed into a gearwork of his prey’s transport carrier. He was lacking in the warp-gifts and not particularly large. His comrades had either advanced through the fog of war and left him or lay scattered around the immediate vicinity as a result of their assault cannon defense batteries. Yet, he was still eager and optimistic. He had assisted in the spearhead and seen many of the foe stricken down in their righteous fury in the name of their deity. Many moments were taken to rehearse the litany of devotions to imbue his cohort with renewed zeal and ferocity. He was tired, he had to admit, as he was still mostly human. He had looked around for something he could use. A tinny noise at his waste interjected his internal dialogue. Could it be? His hand instinctively grabbed for something. It was there. He tilted his head down and beheld a glorious sight. The Oratory Font brethren all carried these. Of course. In his battle-rage he had forgotten. So it was that Blastiche was able to enter the enemy’s compound and begin the ending of their suffering and grant them deliverance to the Ruinous Powers. The simple, yet effective krak grenade became legend that day. From then on, it would be known as the Lone Demise of Asteroth, the namesake of the wretched homeworld of the antagonists of the Ragegivers. https://play.eternalcrusade.com/ https://www.wacom.com/en-us/products https://warhammer40000.com/ https://www.photoshop.com/ https://www.amazon.com/Mirado-Warrior-Woodcase-Pencil-Nontoxic/dp/B07HMFQ6PD/ref=sr_1_1?hvadid=78340271162382&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvqmt=e&keywords=mirado+black+warrior+pencil&qid=1557811428&s=gateway&sr=8-1 |
